HOW STUDENTS LEARN

How Students Learn explores how The Studio School (TSS) works with each individual student to develop a customised learning program designed around their specific interests and abilities.
Custom Learning Programs
At The Studio School (TSS), we understand that every student learns differently. Staff at The Studio School will engage with each individual student through a range of creative exploration processes to develop a custom learning program that is co-designed around their specific interests and abilities.

Learning that Sparks Curiosity and Creativity

The Studio School empowers our students to experience education as a seamless transition into tertiary learning and the world of work. Learning is hands-on, authentic, purposeful, and connected to the real world.

Encouraging Participation and Collaboration with Project-Based Learning
Project-based learning (PBL) is a teaching and learning method where students learn not only from textbooks and didactic teaching but also by engaging in projects in the real world. Students undertake a variety of projects, allowing them to develop a range of skills, knowledge and understandings. To deepen their learning and contextualise their projects in the real world, students have the opportunity to collaborate with Project Mentors and relevant industry partnerships, as well as other students and staff.

Make Learning Memorable with Real World Learning
With a student-centred approach to learning, TSS provides opportunities for students to interact with the wider community and learn in real-world contexts relevant to their interests. Actively participating in the learning process can help students understand concepts more deeply and make learning more memorable.

Self-Paced Learning
TSS follows a flexible timetable, providing students with ample time to collaborate, delve into deep work on their individual or group projects or embark upon internships or work with industry mentors. Classes combined with open work time allows students to learn at their own pace and in a way that best suits their learning style.

Student-Centred Learning
Putting students at the centre of the learning process means that students are actively involved in their own learning and are responsible for their own progress. Students’ custom programs are co-designed with their Mentor Teacher, enabling them to have ownership and passion for their learning.
"A day at TSS looks quite different from mainstream schooling. It is individualised and catered for each student."
- Nina Anderson, Head of Campus

Individualised Support

Our unique mentoring programs can be tailored to all ability levels, from those students who need additional support to those who are gifted in particular domains. We believe that all students have the potential to succeed, and we are committed to providing them with opportunities that foster the individualised support they need to reach their full potential.

Flexible Project Pathways

Since students at The Studio School direct their own projects, they have the flexibility to pivot their project journey as they learn and grow. The students can also utilise the expertise of their mentors to help them achieve their goals.

Benefits of Our Alternative Schooling Program

The Studio School learning programs are tailored to the student’s individual interests and abilities. This means that they will be exploring topics and real-world issues about which they are passionate.

Students are provided with the unique support they require. Our staff are there to help them, every step of the way, from understanding the material, all the way through to developing their study skills.

The Studio School is flexible. This means that students can work at their own pace, contextualise their learning in real-world environments, and focus on projects that inspire and interest them.

At TSS, each student has the opportunity to thrive. Our dedication lies in offering each student personalised support to help them harness their full potential and accomplish their goals.
