Upon graduating from The Studio School (TSS) in 2023, Madi commenced her tertiary studies at Murdoch University where she is completing a Bachelor of Criminology, majoring in Criminal Behaviour, and a Bachelor of Global Security, with a focus on Terrorism and Counter-terrorism.
When Madi joined TSS, mid-way through Year 11, she worked closely with the staff and her mentors to co-design a custom learning program suited to her interests, abilities and goals. The following year, she graduated with her Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and a Certificate IV in Business, securing an early offer entry and her first preference to university.
Madi’s educational journey before The Studio School was not without struggles, and she credits TSS and its staff for restoring her self-belief:
“Prior to attending TSS, I had lost my passions, my drive and any hope I had in achieving my academic goals. The School was my last chance, and I am forever grateful that I took it," she reflected.
Madi also noted how the individual learning programs and strong mentoring at TSS shaped and prepared her for her current tertiary academic pursuits:
"TSS provided me with a dedicated, individualised support system that prepared me to pursue my post-school pathway," Madi explained. "They understood where I wanted to be, knew they could support me to get there, and always believed in my abilities."
While Madi does not miss the three-hour round-trip bus commute to TSS, she does feel the absence of TSS’s vibrant community spirit:
“I was genuinely so happy during my time at TSS, and being a part of its community. I looked forward to engaging with the staff, spending lunchtimes exploring Freo, going on random coffee runs, and waffling about anything true crime to whoever would listen!”
Offering advice to current and future TSS students, Madi says, "Always be curious and open to new ideas and challenges." She encourages students to embrace change, take advantage of the diverse opportunities offered at TSS, and step out of their comfort zones, stating: "Every single day has the power to change your life."
